Life, and all its updates...

I'm writing this post while sitting on my roof deck, gazing at the beautiful Hudson River and all the trees within Riverside Park. It's quite beautiful and relaxing. Now if only my maid will bring me my iced tea... ah well.

I feel only slightly guilty that I am riding on someone else's broadband to do this. Unfortunatly my network doesn't reach up here. And I'm not sure if getting a booster to maybe allow it to reach is worth it. Thoughts from my geek-enabled friends?

This weekend has been spent doing nothing but organizing my house. I've made lots of progress... it really is livable. There are plenty of items that still need to be purchased (boy, I knew moving wasn't cheap - but most of my expenses are coming AFTER the move!) Also need to figure out potential furniture purchases and placements. As people come visit, I expect you to share your thoughts.

Yesterday was spent on a whirlwind shopping tour with Lolita in a huge shopping empire in Brooklyn, hitting Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Home Depot. By the end of it all (6 hours, 7?), I was more than ready to call it a day.

Oh yeah, then there was the shopping car theft. I've heard of many kinds of theft, but this one took the take. Since the aisles are somewhat crowded, Lolita and I were leaving our shopping wagon in the big aisles as we took a look within the smaller ones. Well, off we went looking for comforters, and when we returned, well what do ya know, our wagon was missing. And sitting in its place was a wagon full of stuff that was completely different than ours, except for the presence of laundry detergent. We figured, ok, someone took the wrong wagon. We'll wait.

And wait. And wait.

I then went off to search. While I was away, the woman who took our wagon returned to the scene of the crime - WITHOUT OUR WAGON! She tells Lolita that the one she was standing by was hers... and Lolita responds (these aren't exact quotes, as I wasn't there - but you'll get the jist of it)...

Lolita - "Where is MY wagon?"
Thief - "Oh, I left it somewhere down that-a-way."
Lolita - " You mean you took our wagon in mistake, and just left it somewhere while coming back from yours?"
Thief - "Um, yeah... I can show you where, I think."
LOlita - "How RUDE! You steal our wagon, and you don't bring it back! How DARE you??"
Thief - "Um, oh, I'm so sorry, um, I'll, er... I'll go find it! I promise! I'll be right back! Oh my!"

Heh. Take that shopping wagon thief. (Yes, we got our wagon back.)

If you think it's expensive now, wait until you own a house!

Glad to hear you're having fun and enjoying the place. Can't wait to have a moment to breathe long enough to visit you.

As for the bandwidth, it's rude to use someone else's and not smart of them to be running an unsecure system. I would try getting a repeater and see if that helps. Then lock it down so people can't either use your bandwidth or hack your system.

*LOL* Oh wow... I wish I could have been a fly on the wall. Only a New Yorker would even THINK of tangling with Lolita... :o)

Wireless? Some people do share. Check out: http://www.nycwireless.net/

Just remember it's not secure. So, no banking from the rooftop :)

I hate wagon thiefs, especially the ones that dump all your stuff out and take the wagon, cuz they didn't think to get their own damn wagon on the way in. Grrr.

Wireless G, if you are enabled, works a lot better at going UP then wireless B. I had a lot of problem setting up my apartment until I figured that out. Then I sold my B router on e-bay for, effectively, it's purchase price.

Yeah, I use G. The problem is that my apartment is rear facing, while the roof deck is positioned at the front of the building. Thus my dilemma.

Well then, I vote for assuming that anyone who leaves their access open wants to share. Repeaters are expensive. :)
