I'm filling my brand spankin' new 20-gallon fish tank with water as we speak... er... as I type. Yeah, that's it.

And it dawned on me when it hit a quarter full... I wonder if my IKEA entertainment center will be able to hold up with all that water in it.

Huh. Guess we'll find out.

Edit - We're good!

A gallon of water is, what, 8 lbs? So you're talking about roughly 160lbs over and above the weight of the tank.

So - if you and a friend can sit comfortably on the entertainment center without it being unhappy you should be fine : )

*falls over laughing*

I'll have to remember this if you ever ask me to do a scene that involves being a container, or accepting weight on my person.

You are not genetically predisposed to being good at math. Accept it an move on.

And get a calculator for weight scenes! ;)

Ikea's stuff is pretty strong, it's just not especially mobile. Make sure that the tank is sitting directly on some sort of vertical support perferabley in the center, or the horizontal surface will begin to sag. You may need to get a piece of wood to put under it.
