This is amazing.

Thank you to glowroper for posting this.

As someone who used to live off of food stamps, I know how hard it is. My family suffered through some seriously hard times, and I saw how much money ruled whether or not we could eat 3 meals a day... and sometimes we, or my parents at the least, made do with 2 or 1.

This project - http://foodstampchallenge.typepad.com/my_weblog/ - where members of congress lived a week on foodstamps to experience what others are was absolutely fascinating.

I actually almost cried reading it.

Thanks for posting this. I know it's a publicity stunt, but it's still the sort of thing that gives me a bit of hope - to see that at least a few of our lawmakers are decent people, trying to work for the good of others. It's encouraging to see the times that they're willing to do something difficult in order to make a point and achieve their goals.

(I'm not surprised that Schakowsky is involved. She's one of the good ones. I'm glad to see her name linked to this.)

Our country needs more leaders like this...
Because, the other side of this is that it's tragic how many people are struggling and barely getting by.

I wish more people in general were willing to try living a bit of another's life for a while, just to learn how it is and see how it changes your perspective.
