And while I'm at it.

"I sincerely believe in RACK, not SSC!"

From now on, I am going to immediately assume that anyone uttering the above statement, or anything like it, is an idiot.

That is all.

You are a wise man

Actual wisdom will rarely fit on a bumper sticker.

Can I put this on a bumpersticker?

Yes, but be careful. That much irony can cure anemia.

I'm glad the term RACK hasn't really caught on down here.

"Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days."

can't you have both?
Feb. 11th, 2010 02:02 pm (UTC)
They're both PR slogans, nothing more. Meaningless in the end, but people try to use them as a shield/badge, altering their meanings to suit their purposes. And in the end, they're idiots.
Feb. 11th, 2010 05:01 am (UTC)
Ya, really!
Feb. 11th, 2010 06:24 am (UTC)
What the heck is RACK?
Feb. 11th, 2010 06:40 am (UTC)
risk aware consensual kink
Feb. 11th, 2010 12:43 pm (UTC)
Thanks. :) One would not see that at mutually exclusive from SSC....
Feb. 11th, 2010 01:04 pm (UTC)
well, apart from the unsafe insane activities!
Feb. 11th, 2010 02:03 pm (UTC)
They're not. PR slogans, nothing more. Until idiots like to use them to justify their own idiotic behavior.

What!? People in the scene are not always mentally healthy and will go to great lengths to justify unhealthy behavior? Perish the thought!

Guess I'm an idiot then.

The way I think of it is, everything we do, no matter how safe we try to be, is dangerous in one way or another, we play recognizing these dangers and aware of them and consentent. Nothing we do is "Safe" there is always some kind of danger or risk involved. The rope could break, the flogger could wrap, or whatever have you. They're all risks, I am aware of them, I consent to the activities anyways. I don't see how that makes me an idiot, but your boat, whatever.

I am referring to people who try to identify themselves as one thing and not the other, as if there is an actual distinction between the two. They are both slogans, and they mean the same thing. Safe is always defined as what is safe to you. Sane is knowing the difference between fantasy and reality. Consent, well I shouldn't even need to explain.

I have seen people say it is ok to publicly ignore a bottom's safeword when called, because they are RACK players, and not SSC. Which is utter bullshit.

"Being RACK" makes you no better, or different, than "being SSC". It's just a bunch of status games, trying to make oneself better than the other.

So, yes, I stand by my statement. If someone tries to say they are RACK and not SSC, they're an idiot.
Feb. 12th, 2010 02:14 am (UTC)
Do I'm an idiot in your eyes, terrific to know. And no, I don't believe being RACK means you ignore safety words -that's- just stupid, and has nothing to do with all my friends who are RACK who respect safe words as if they were sacred, and to us they are. You're assuming I'm acting like the idiots you know where you live, I'm not one of them. I respect safe words as if they were a command from the Goddess Herself.
Feb. 12th, 2010 02:19 am (UTC)
OK then, YOU tell me. Why are you RACK and not SSC? You tell me the difference.
Feb. 12th, 2010 02:32 am (UTC)
Because what I do is not actually safe, so the S for safe in SSC doesn't apply to me. I am aware of the risks instead, try to minimize them and consent to the risks. Plus I'm not sure what I do isn't entirely sane either, we do things that are very edgy. It's sane (in a way) and consensual, it just isn't -safe- 100%, that's impossible.
Feb. 12th, 2010 02:41 am (UTC)
You calculated the risks, and have made the personal determination that your play is safe enough for you? Right?

That's the first "S."

You understand the reality of the kind of play you do, and you consider yourself a fully rational adult who has considered what you are doing fully. Sounds sane to me.

That's the second "S."

You consented. There's the big ole "C."

This is why the whole I'm RACK and not SSC drives me absolutely insane. Because they're two different ways of saying the same thing. Because they are SLOGANS, things designed for the SM community to communicate to the mass public to give a better understanding that we are not insane killers and torturers.

Do you understand?

I am not calling your play idiotic. I am calling the usage of the terms idiotic.

Somehow the internet and people have tried to draw a line in the sand, as if there is an us vs. them mentality over SSC and RACK. There isn't.

Just two damn ways of saying the same damn thing.

Sorry I offended you, but I stand by my post.

"I have seen people say it is ok to publicly ignore a bottom's safeword when called, because they are RACK players, and not SSC. Which is utter bullshit."

Really?... Shit! Yeah... that is not RACK, they are missing the "C".

I have always considered both good little mottoes to help us remember what is important, but they are not a state of being, and if anyone is trying to use a little motto to justify dangerous behavior... well... that is not only counter to both statements but a big red flag.

I had never quite thought of it this way and I definitely did not know that this problem existed... thanks for the heads up!

Hi, I'm the IDIOT
Hello there, I guess I'm the idiot. The only one with something a little different to say than the rest of the supportive gang gets called the idiot. Fantastic!

I happen to really agree with kayt_arminta on why I consider myself more RACK than SSC. And sure they're slogans, what difference does that make?

BDSM is risky, but we are all adults and we have the right to make the choices we do. Saying someone is unsafe because they happen to play edgier than someone else is WRONG. That's what the 'nillas do us all the fucking time. Why do I need someone in the lifestyle telling me how to play? Threatening to out people based on he said/she said crap. WTF?
Feb. 12th, 2010 11:56 pm (UTC)
Re: Hi, I'm the IDIOT
I have never said anywhere in any of my posts that someone is unsafe because they are "edgy," nor am I telling you how to play.
