I just lit Chanukah candles for the first time in my new home.

My parents dropped off a very special menorah in my apartment this afternoon. It belonged to my mother's grandmother. A very special heirloom passed down to me.

I feel very special. Thank you mom and dad.

It is a nice feeling to start celebrating the holidays in your own space with a family heirloom. The bringing together of the old and the new to begin to build a foundation for the future is just the beginning of good things to come.

Happy Hanukkah!

My menorah is special to me as well. I used to have a cheap one that came from who knows where, and a few years back I asked my sister if she'd get me one for Hanukkah. She's very religious in a way I'm not, so it was special to me to have this gift come from her, as a symbol of the parts of our religion that we both share. I lit my first candle last night and it made me very happy. I'm looking forward to lighting the fifth or sixth this weekend with my mom and Jason.
