The weekend.

This weekend, I fell hopelessly back in love with my city. I explored it like a first-time visitor, looking closely at all the nooks and crannies. With my traveling partner, dahling, I saw parts of NYC that I have seen a million times for the first time all over again.

I fell in love. Completely.

We walked the streets of midtown, exploring the bead, button, and trimming stores. We walked further east, and bought fish, and took delight at all the pretties within the store.

We pretended to be tourists and stood on line with all of the TKTS customers, and failed completely to get any tickets. We trecked to Kaufmanns on 42nd and bought boots - jump boots and tank boots, and attacked the rainy day with new found bravery due to our new boot goodness. We went to Toys R' Us and marveled at the T-Rex and the ferris wheel, and bought candy.

We traveled to Coney Island with fellow explorers rogueboi and dragbear, where we rode the Wonder Wheel, and went to the freak show, and Nathans, and they even convinced me to ride the Cyclone for the 1st time ever! dahling completely kicked my ass at rock climbing, and won me the most dilapidated fish ever, but is made wonderful due to the fact that it is taking it up the ass by another fish. I taught dahling how to eat clams on the half shell, and watched as she learned how much fun it is to slurp them down her gullet.

We walked through Central Park, exploring the Ramble, the Reservoir, walked the Bridle Path, marveled at the Obelisk, walked around Belvedere Castle, took a load off in Hernshead, walked the Bow Bridge, ate in Bethesda Terrace, walked through the Mall and the Literary Walk, explored the Dairy and rode the Carousel. We then trecked eastward and happily spooned and slurped a peanut butter frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity 3.

We sat at home and watched The Godfather over NY State-made Blueberry-infused port.

This weekend, my city and I fell in love. Lots and lots and lots of love.

The only part that surprised me? You'd never rode the Cyclone? Ever? Um....wow. Just, wow.

Ya. All the time spent in the ass-end of Brooklyn and you never hopped on The Cyclone? Well, congratulation for finally taking the plunge. It's never too late for a first ride on that little monster.
BTW, you mentioned some of my favorite spots in the city in your trek report. :)

Sounds like a splendiferous experience; I'm glad you had it. :)

(And, it reminds me of what I had already thought this morning, which is that I need to go home and meld the old, the new, the missing and the forever changed, in my own home.)
