And sure enough, a few seconds later, a woman in heels comes running down the block screaming. The guy stole her purse.
A common theft, for sure... but our neighborhood is known for being very safe. This is the first burglary/mugging I've personally heard of happening in the 3 years I've been here. It happened not 2 blocks away from where I live.
We did our best to console the poor woman... Lolita left to go home while I walked with the woman down to my street corner. I stood by as she called 911, helped her with the description of the thief, and waiting with her as four cop cars pulled up. I gave them as much of a description as I could, and my phone number in case they find the guy and need an ID, and continued to helped console the victim. She then entered one of the cars, and they left to go search for her purse.
Poor girl. I hope they find it!
