Nice... umbrella.

Friday night on my way home from work, I decided at the last minute to do a little errand. I called my date for the evening to tell her that I would be a few hours late, as I just wanted to stop by the Apple store to pick up an iPhone.

A few hours. Right. Methinks I wasn't right in the head at that very moment.

I've never done an opening night for anything. Movies, book releases, nothing. But for some reason, standing in line for the iPhone seemed like a jolly good idea.

I practically offended the woman behind me in line within the 1st half hour. As we were gazing east on 14th Street, she had noticed an owl hanging off the roof of a building not too far away. I pointed out that it was an owl replica designed to scare pigeons as well. When her eyebrows lifted in disbelief, I explained my past profession as an exterminator and that it was a common tactic in the field.

To which she was aghast. Apparently this woman wouldn't even kill a roach crawling on her sandwich, and she once rescued a mouse trapped on a glue board. I chuckled and agreed about how awful glue traps are... they're mightily inefficient and unreliable. Poison works much better.

She didn't talk to me for an hour. Oops.

At the three hour mark, my date actually came to wait in line with me. (Is it really a NY thing to say "on line," instead of "in line"?) The previously offended woman noted how she must really like me.

Of course, a stupid decision must end in stupidity. Three hours  later (yes, I waited in line for 6 hours!), clutching an Apple umbrella that was handed to the crowd to fight off the sun, we were told sorry, no iPhone for you, take this handy dandy card instead and come back tomorrow. We'll even let you cut the line.

I didn't give them back the umbrella. It's mine now, bastards.

Anyway, I have it now, and it is a thing of beauty. I took a lot of ribbing from lolitasir and naylandblake today as I tinkered with it, but it really is a marvelous piece of machinery. Now if I could only receive phone calls on it!! Sprint is taking their sweet ass time porting over my phone number. I can make calls, receive and send texts, but incoming phone calls go to my old Sprint phone. It's a pain in the ass to carry two phones.

Now I go back to fiddling with it. Hee.

Must be the weekend for new technology. Congrats on your new phone and umbrella. The folks at Verizon only gave me a fabulous price on my new Blackberry.
