Dusting off the cobwebs

:::breaks out broom, sweeping away dirt and cobwebs from this thing:::

Wow, been a while since I've posted here... is this thing still on? ;-) Sorry for the absense... we'll see if I can post more than once a month.

Anyway, yesterday got some tremendous news. You can now call me Uncle Phil. My sister had a baby boy yesterday, Christopher John, 7 pounds and 9 ounces. I get to meet my nephew the weekend after BR. I'm so excited!!! I will hopefully be bringing K with me, and she'll wind up meeting the entire family. If she doesn;t run away after that, shes mine for life...

So, I had this very strange thought. Every day on my way to work, I must run into at least 4 or 5 different people tring to push their religion onto the passerbys. Either its the woman who stands there trying to pass out little leaflets abotu Christ, mumbling incoherentely... to the woman who stares off into space shouting a loud sermon to all her imagineray friends, to the guy on the train who decides to inform us that we are all damned to Hell because we do not love Jesus.

It all makes me think of the scene in Airplane, where the flight commander beats the living daylights out of a swarm of Hare Krishnas in the airport. I laugh histerically every single time I see that scene, because I have felt the pull of such gratutious violence within myself. Of course, the really interesting part is that since 9/11, there have been Hare Krishnas hanging out near Union Square. And once in a while, when passing them, I can't resist picturing that scene in Airplane, and laughing aloud.

I wonder... do these people work directely for the religion, or are they volunteers? I presume the goal is to convert the passerby. I wonder if they work on salary, or maybe commission based? Half a year in heaven for every convert sold? Sin allowance? I would be allowed to rape and pillage 3 towns for every 100 people converted? Hmmm... I'll have to look into this...
